AIR BYPASS VALVE POSITION SENSOR INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)]

•  Water penetrating the connector will cause sensor malfunction. To prevent this, be careful not to damage the wiring harnesses or the waterproof connector so as to cause water penetration.

Voltage Inspection

1.  Turn the engine switch to the ON position.

2.  Measure the voltage between air bypass valve position sensor terminal A and body ground.

•  If it is not as specified, “Circuit Open/Short Inspection”.
―  If there is no open/short circuit, replace the air pipe (air bypass valve and intake throttle valve component).

Resistance Inspection

1.  Remove the charge air cooler hose between air pipe to charge air cooler pipe. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

2.  Disconnect the air bypass valve connector.

3.  Measure the resistance between air bypass valve terminals.

•  If not as specified, replace the air bypass valve.

Circuit Open/Short Inspection

1.  Disconnect the PCM connector. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

2.  Inspect the following wiring harness for an open or short circuit (continuity check).

Open circuit

•  If there is no continuity, there is an open circuit. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
―  Air bypass valve terminal A and PCM terminal 233
―  Air bypass valve terminal B and PCM terminal 105
―  Air bypass valve terminal F and PCM terminal 206


Short circuit

•  If there is continuity, there is a short circuit. Repair or replace the wiring harness.
―  Air bypass valve terminal A and power supply
―  Air bypass valve terminal A and body ground
―  Air bypass valve terminal F and power supply
―  Air bypass valve terminal F and body ground
―  Air bypass valve terminal B and power supply
―  Air bypass valve terminal B and body ground
