DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER LAMP FLASHES

DESCRIPTION
•  Diesel particulate filter lamp flashes because the diesel particulate filter system can not dispose of diesel particulate
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Driving condition is not in diesel particulate filter regeneration condition
•  Diesel particulate filter is not regenerated by manual regeneration procedure
•  Diesel particulate filter damaged or deterioration
•  Erratic signal input to PCM
―  Exhaust gas pressure sensor signal
•  PCM does not realize the diesel particulate trap amount in diesel particulate filter

Diagnostic Procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

RESULTS

ACTION

1
Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
Retrieve any DTCs.
Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
DTC P242F, P252F, P253F or P2458 is displayed:
Go to the next Step.
Other DTC is displayed:
Go to the appropriate DTC test.
Communication error message is displayed:
Inspect the following:
•  Open circuit between PCM control relay and PCM terminal 119 or 120
•  Open circuit PCM control relay and PCM terminal 105
•  PCM control relay stuck open
•  Open or poor ground circuit (PCM terminal 1, 2, 3, 114 or 117)
•  Poor connection to vehicle body ground
No
No DTC is displayed:
Go to the next step.
2
Inspect the engine oil amount.
Is the engine oil amount above the X line on dipstick?
Yes
Replace the specified engine oil.
Perform the engine oil initialize procedure.
No
Go to the next step.
3
Monitor the PM_ACC, PM_GEN and PM_ACC_DSD PIDs using the M-MDS.
Are monitored values 8 g/L or less?
Yes
Go to Step 12.
No
If each PIDs value are 11 g/L or less;
Go to the next step.
If each PIDs value are above 11 g/L;
Go to Step 5.
4
Perform the following;
•  Injection amount correction
•  Diesel particulate filter manual regeneration procedure
Retrieve any DTCs.
Is DTC P2428 detected?
Yes
Go to DTC P2428 diagnostic procedure.
No
Go to Step 12.
5
Monitor the PM_ACC, PM_GEN and PM_ACC_DSD PIDs using the M-MDS.
Is one of the PID monitored value 15 g/L or less?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the diesel particulate filter, then go to Step 10.
6
Perform the following;
•  Injection amount correction
•  Diesel particulate filter manual regeneration procedure (long mode)
Go to the next step.
7
Verify that the diesel particulate filter lamp condition.
Does the diesel particulate filter lamp illuminate?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 12.
8
Perform diesel particulate filter manual regeneration procedure.
Go to the next step.
9
Retrieve any DTCs.
Is DTC P2428 detected?
Yes
Go to DTC P2428 diagnostic procedure.
No
Go to Step 12.
10
Perform the following;
1.  Diesel particulate filter data reset
2.  KOEO self‐test
3.  Diesel particulate filter reset
4.  Injection amount correction
5.  Diesel particulate filter manual regeneration procedure
Go to the next step.
11
Retrieve any DTCs.
Is DTC P2428 detected?
Yes
Go to DTC P2428 diagnostic procedure.
No
Go to the next step.
12
Perform diesel particulate filter assessment procedure.
Does diesel particulate filter assessment procedure operate properly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Reinspect from Step 1.
13
Clear the DTC from PCM memory.
Verify the diesel particulate filter lamp condition.
Does the diesel particulate filter lamp illuminate?
Yes
Go to Step 1.
No
Troubleshooting completed, go to the next step.
14
Verify test results.
•  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
•  If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
―  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.
―  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, reprogram the PCM if later calibration is available. Retest.
