Vehicle identification block corrupted or not programmed

DETECTION CONDITION

•  Vehicle identification block not programmed - program vehicle identification block

•  Vehicle identification checksum error - re-program vehicle identification

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  No configuration data in the PCM.

•  PCM internal EEPROM is damaged.

POSSIBLE CAUSE	• No configuration data in the PCM. • PCM internal EEPROM is damaged.

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY • Verify related service bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability. • Is any repair information available?	Yes	Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information. • If vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
1		No	Perform the “PCM CONFIGURATION”, then go to the next step. (See PCM CONFIGURATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
2	VERIFY DTC P1639 DETECTED AGAIN • Clear the DTC from the memory using the M-MDS. • Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition. • Is the same DTC present?	Yes	Replace the PCM, then go to the next step. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE • Perform the after repair procedure. (See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].) • Are any DTCs present?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC TABLE [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
3		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
